Hot London Property Trend: Green Homes
There have been all sorts of interesting knockon effects seen over the last year and a half, as a result of the global pandemic – and where the housing market is concerned, a big surge has been seen in the numbers of people keen to relocate to somewhere greener, so they can better connect with nature and spend more time outside.
But this doesn’t mean you have to flee the city and it seems that developers are keen to cash in on this particular trend, creating oases of calm within urban environments so that househunters can enjoy the best of both worlds.
As Metro reports, one such developer is Berkeley Homes, which has been putting biodiversity at the heart of its residential projects for years now – such as Woodberry DOwn, which connects a Hackney housing estate to a wetlands reserve via a new bridge and walkway.
It’s also been working on The Green Quarter in Ealing, which is a 3,750-home development that boasts 13 acres of green space, as well as its own wetlands and which is soon to see 2,500 trees newly planted.
And the Kidbrooke Village in Greenwich – a 5,000-home project set in 136 acres of parkland and developed alongside the London Wildlife Trust – has just won the Sir David Attenborough Award for Enhancing Biodiversity.
Berkeley’s chief executive Rob Perrins had this to say: “Our communities value and enjoy nature, and we firmly believe access to a beautiful open landscape can enhance people’s quality of life.”
London itself is home to a vast array of beautiful green spaces, making it a brilliant choice for any prospective homebuyer keen to embrace city living without having to forgo fresh air and beautiful views.
In fact, parks like Clissold Park, Highbury Fields, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Bushy Park, Richmond and so on all proved to be a serious lifeline for many during the pandemic and lockdown… so, as you can see, it certainly is possible to have your cake and eat it too in the capital!
